This is a collection of all ten of Tormod Calum Dòmhnallach’s short Gaelic plays. It includes the well-known ‘Anna Chaimbeul’ which skillfully blends a traditional Gaelic song with elements of Japanese Noh theatre to create an evocotive piece; it also includes the moving account of a young WW1 soldier facing the firing squad for refusing orders to kill a young German in ‘Chan fhada gu madainn’. Dòmhnallach draws on Gaelic history and culture to create an alluring range of short plays: suitable for performance or for reading. The plays have been edited by Michelle Macleod, from the University of Aberdeen and there are notes on the context of the plays and an introductory essay about Dòmhnallach and his writing: the notes are all written in Gaelic.
